About
Coltan Kubiangha (b.2001) is a Nigerian Photojournalist whose practice is particularly focused on documenting Nigerians living with visible differences, especially from genetic conditions such as Neurofibromatosis, and Trichoepithelioma, with Portraiture as a way to create awareness about these conditions and improve the manner in which people who have them are perceived and treated by society.
Their practice also focuses significantly on the documentation of indigenous cultures in Nigeria as a means of creating archival visual history of these cultures for the future, and for people in the present to connect with the culture and traditions.
Kubiangha studied Geography and Environmental Science, majoring in Tourism Studies at the University of Calabar, Cross River State. Their photographs from the #EndSARS protests in Nigeria have been published in Aljazeera English (2021). They have been featured on Oprah Daily Magazine (2022). Their work has been spotlighted by Everydayeverywhere, RADR Africa, and Black Women Photographers, a global organization of Black Women and Nonbinary Photographers.
Coltan was born in Calabar and currently lives in Abuja.
